happy hump day

Hey you guysssss...

So yes Dani, I too am interning and classing but only have one class next session, yet i am also working nights at The Belmont now. I decided to leave Third Base 2 weeks ago (the day after I promoted it on this very blog) and decided to move up a few notches to the Vegas-meets-Palm Springs establishment on 6th and Lavaca (next to Hi/Lo). Come visit me Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (tentative so ask first).

I am heading back to NJ from July 5th thru the 9th to visit with family and be home for my brother's high school graduation party. I am sSSsSsOoOOo excited to go to the Jersey shore, eat great food and hang out in NYC--and perhaps just to get a break from this most disgusting heat here in Texas. I definitely won't miss this rain either--whats up with that!?

I'm very drained from all that's going on now that my first summer session is winding down so I dont have much to entertain you with, but Im sure I will once happy hour begins ;)

Peace&Love,
Laura

Oh and P.S. a few of my girlfriends are moving out of their house on 35th street (off Duval I believe) and are having a big bas on Saturday night. All of you are invited to attend. There will be plenty of beer b/c theyre getting kegs but bring your own liquor if you desire. It will be so worth it. . . a lot of people are going from UT, most of them are from El Paso, and well it will be a ton of fun. Ask me for details if you're interested.

what is today?

soooo... is anyone else doing summer school and working?? Is anyone else dying like me? annnd does anyone else have TWO summer classes next session? Just throwing it out there...if you are doing school and working like me, props for not dropping dead. ok, i'm going to go back to focusing on keeping my eyes open and my body vertical... :/

signed,
a tired dani

time for coffee! :)

If you like art, vote for mine :)

So in my pre grad/art student phase, I am spending most of my time creating these art profiles online. I already posted the link to the first one I made, but I made another one. And this one is cooler because I actually entered several of my works into a contest to win $1000, which would be a nice chunk of change for a future starving grad artist. In reality, I'm most likely not going to win, but its nice to have support from other people. So if you want to vote, go to my profile page and on the right side are the works I have entered in the contest. Click to view and vote on them. Make sure you sign in as a guest or the vote doesnt count. You can vote as much as you like, everyday if you so choose, until the contest ends on August 3rd. Enjoy!

Bett Late Than Never

Just some things about me....

My name is Ryan Michael Bailey. I was born in Austin, TX and have never left (Is that sad?). I am an only child which got boring at times. I grew up playing sports since four years old (soccer and baseball) so I spent most of my time hanging out with all friends from my team. I was always the shy kid in class for most of my life. Particularly around girls... they had cooties (ewwww). My dad had always been in publishing all my life so I got a little bit of a look at the creative side of an industry. It wasn't until Junior year of High School (Austin Anderson) was when i really started to be more outgoing. I played Baseball, Basketball, and Football at Anderson. Football kind of fell in my lap because I played soccer for 12 years so i figured I could be a kicker. It ended up working out because my freshman year ay UT, I walked on to the football team and made it.... to my surprise (I thought I didnt have a chance). And then the following year, something happened that I never could of dreamed of. I got called in at the end of the Nebraska game and thankfully was able to make a field goal to win the game. One of the top moments of my life. But I hope it isn't the best, I hope there are better things in the future because sports don't last forever. Currently I just moved in with my friend from high school and some of his frat brothers (on MLK and Robbins, where I just found out a bunch of people live in that area that work here) So if you ever wanna come hang out just give me a call and we will all do something: 512-699-9644. I am an advertising major and like everything that I have seen in the field so far. Now I am interning here under Peter Moossy- New Business while having to do summer work-outs so my summer is very busy. Hope to talk to all of you soon. Come say hi sometime....

I hate Texas in the summertime ;)

Hey Everyone. . .

Like Tom, I also wasn't at the intern orientation due to a very strange infection that came out of nowhere that caused me to go into emergency surgery to have an abcese removed from my throat--and its stories like that you'll come to know are very common in my life--notorious for having the most outrageous things happening as opposed to the normal. . .

Anyhow, my name's Laura Correnti and I'm a 22-year-old Saggitarius in my second year of the master's program at UT, getting a degree in Advertising. I'll be wrapping up this December with sights set on moving back east to the NY/NJ area -- I am a born and raised Jersey girl with little inhibition to speak my mind (it sometimes gets me in trouble but I do appreciate the value in honesty). I'm Italian and Irish and my family is probably larger than yours ;) I miss thick Jersey accents, real good pizza and everyone rushing to get nowhere

I moved down here last August after completing my undergrad at American Univ. in Washington, DC where I majored in law/government and minored in business admin and completed a few years of division 1 college soccer with a preference for grey goose as opposed to gatorade. I spent a glorious summer at the Jersey shore (which I miss oh so much right now) before I moved out here to learn about southern hospitality. Country music and texmex have grown on me, but I am so not a fan of this heat (and yes, I know, it is only June). I am loving the advertising industry more so than I expect I would like law school (my original life plan). I am a teaching assistant for the notorious John Murphy and ADV 318J during the school year (Ryan was a former student of mine so you can feel free to ask him how really good I am at this stuff, hah). I like the school spirit vibe and football (ehem tailgating) at UT; I do not like early classes nor do I love how big classes are and how spread apart everything is.

Aside from my time here at Tocquigny this summer, I'm taking two classes and working at a sports bar/restaurant on 6th street at mopac, Third Base (www.thirdbaseaustin.com) so come check it out (no one knows my real real name there as I was quick to be given the nickname "jersey" so thats who you have to ask for) -- we have a great happy hour and 30 something flat screen HD TV's and a whole garage of free parking. Oh and for fun, you can catch me downtown in the warehouse district on the weekends, regularly.

Other guilty pleasures include celebrity blogs (perezhilton.com and x17online.com), the NY Yankees, Sopranos and Sex & the City, shopping, spin & kickboxing class, nights on the town, italian food and anything that includes the sun & water.

Any questions, feel free to ask. . .
But my question is, when are we all getting together for our own "not so free" beer friday?
So I guess I didn't really talk about myself in my last post. So here goes...

Hello, I'm Kristie. =) I just received my BS in Advertising and completed the Texas Media sequence this past semester, but I have not completely graduated yet. I still have a few Sociology requirements (my other major) and LEB for Business Foundations to take before I finish school in December, which makes me a rising super senior. I am from Sugar Land, a suburb outside of Houston. There's a railroad track that basically divides the city into two: old SL and new SL. I live in old SL, which is not quite as sunshine happy as the Sugar Land that most people are familiar with. I like to say that I live on the 'other side of the railroad tracks' so that I can laugh at people's reactions. I do not have any siblings or pets but would like to get a dog when I get the time and money to take care of it. In the fall, 3 friends and I will be moving into efficiencies next door to each other in the same apartment complex. We wanted to be closer together but decided not to live with each other because we want to stay friends, j/k sort of. I'm the returning media intern and will be helping Luke put together the lunch seminar on media. I know that not everyone is a fan of media like me or is as familiar with it so if anyone has any requests as to what should and should not be included let me know.

one more thing

PS. this is a picture of my dog Reese...

It's all about me

A little about me…

I am Thomas Hayes Peake, but you can call me Tom. I was out of town during the intern orientation so for those of you I have not officially met, Hello. My father was a career Army officer so I spent my whole life moving around from city to city. I was born in San Antonio and moved about every 1-2 years. I have lived everywhere from Hawaii to Korea, Washington State to Washington DC. I went to High school, Undergrad, and now Graduate school in Texas and I don’t plan on leaving!

As far as hobbies go I play soccer, cook, and generally just like to be outside. I got a puppy a few months a go and so she keeps me pretty busy as well. She is a chocolate Lab named Reese. I named her Reese because she looks like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. She is chocolate on her outside, but her belly and paws are the color of peanut butter.

Well I gotta run, but hoppfuly ya'll know a bit more about me now....

I made this art profile the other day. It's got some of my favorite art that ive made in the last couple of years. check it out
http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/stuart/StudentArt/ast_id/31994

yeah, so i obviously kept typing in the giant font. my bad. oh well, at least you dont have to squint to see it

Interns= Awesome

Ok, so I guess its my turn to post. Wow, so as I was writing that last sentence I felt like the font was kind of large so I went to the tab to go change it. Instead of have font sizes in numbers, the sizes are done by smallest, small, Normal, Larger, Largest. This is the first time I have ever seen font sizes done like this, very weird. Did anybody else think that was weird (I'm obviously an art director since I noticed that and decided to write about it in my post). And I also just discovered that I am writing in the "normal" sized font, but since the sizes arent done in numbers I have no idea if "normal" is actually a regualr sized font. Ok I obviously care way too much about fonts, and actually theres a reason for that. In the fall im starting a MFA Graphic Design program at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. I'm pretty much obsessed with San Francisco and when I went to visit the school in April I fell in love with it. I'd only been to San Francisco one time before for seriously like 2days, and ever since them i've alwasy wanted to go back. So now I get to go to school there for 2-3 years and I'm way pumped! It will probably be like going to college for real this time. I've lived in Austin my whole life, so going to UT wasnt really like moving away from home all that much, as I came to find out freshman year. Now I'll really be on my own, half way across the country and racking up over 50 G's in student loans. But design is awesome. Which reminds me, that I was making a point about fonts. I think my point was that typography is a huge part of graphic design so I'm practicing noticing these kinds of things (which is why I paid attention to the size of the font).

I think I better say something else about myself before I become known as the font girl
* I just turned 22 on may 24
* I also just graduated from UT with a BS in Advertising; I also survived the creative sequence
* I seem shy/mean (yes people have said this before) at first but thats really because Im not that talkative to people I dont know. So really if you just start talking to me Im actually quite friendly
*I've already had a bus experience where this crazy guy sitting next to me wouldnt stop telling me his life story. I even had my ipod in! Obviously he didnt know that having your ipod in is the universal sign for "dont talk to me, im pretending i cant hear you"
* I have a 16 year old sister who looks so much like me we could literally pass for twins
* I like to laugh alot, so if youre funny, were already BFF
* someone took my black sharpie from my desk :-(
There's alot more about me but I'm pretty sure this blog post is really long so I'll just save the otehr good stuff for later.

The Insects are coming to get you

So i have been absent for work... why? Well I think this is my strangest reason yet.
Well maybe this is a close second. (One time I had to miss two weeks of work and school because I was walking home and got struck by a car, and my teacher STILL gave me a lower letter grade because I had "too many absences". I was in the hospital woman!) Anyway, this time, I was stung or bitten by some little thing, that is still unknown to me and the doctors, which I was like whatever who cares. Apparently bites aren't suppose to swell to the size of a small tumor, and I had to be taken to the ER! Ridiculous! I know! I had to be forced, because the thought of having to go to the ER for a BITE was insanity to me. I mean, I guess my throat was getting swollen, and I guess I had a fever, but come on, a bite! Well it turns out after too many trips to the Doctor and ER, that fainting and fever and excess swelling equals deadly bug bite. And to top it off, the shot and medicine that they give you makes you sick as well. I mean I might as well of had the West Nile virus for the way they were treating me. When did bugs start to carry viruses? When did getting bit require more than a lil calamine lotion or benadryl? ok. This is the end of my post. Sorry my first post decided to eat my answers and not show them after I pressed that "publish post" button. Maybe this one will just decide to erase part of my entry as well. let's see.

Heyy ya'll!
So I would just like to say that this is my first blog post - Ever! Im not much into this whole blogging thing but its always good to try new things! So just a little bit about me...
I am a senior at St. Edward's (just across the river) and I am double majoring in Business Marketing and Finance. I am from the Rio Grande Valley (well McAllen) and I grew up all my life there... but I don't want to go back after graduation!
When I'm not working at Tocquigny I am also an E-marketing intern with the St. Ed's marketing department. Like Kristin, I studied in Spain last semester in Bilbao and I got to see the Running of the Bulls too... except I didn't run I just watched from a Balcony! I love traveling and I also traveled to London and Paris. I wish I was going abroad again this summer .. it seems like everyone is going abroad this summer!
I'm a pretty outgoing person.. but I may be kinda shy sometimes!
K ... so this blogging thing is not so bad afterall! Anyways, hope ya'll have a great day !!
-PeAcE :)

I'm so happy I'm not the only intern anymore!

Hey everyone -
It's so great to have some interns here with me! Like I said in our meeting, I've been interning at Tocquigny since January, with Kristie. But in April, everyone left me and Kristie took a little break so I was a bit lonely! Anyway, I am looking forward to our intern project, even if I have to leave during the early stages of it.

A few quick facts about me:
  • Age 21, entering senior year
  • UT undergrad double majoring in Advertising (media sequence) and Spanish, w/ Business Foundations
  • Accepted into UT advertising early grad program, interested in account planning and international adv but not too sure yet??? It seems like account planners get to travel more :-)
  • Born in Tokyo, Japan, but spent most of my life in nearby Round Rock, TX
  • Former UT cheerleader (freshman and sophomore years) Hook 'em!
  • I LOVE singing but have had some damage to my voice over the years... but sang the national anthem at a UT/A&M baseball game when I was in high school
  • I LOVE traveling, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and trying different foods
  • I enjoy helping and volunteering, and am the Volunteer Coordinator for Texas Ad Group
  • I've got great parents and a brother who is about to be an engineering freshman at A&M.... boooo

I'm enjoying my last month here at Tocquigny in the account services department until I leave to go backpacking for 5 weeks through Europe. I'll be in Spain alone for a week until I meet with my good friend in France and from there we're doing: Nice and French Riviera area, Rome, Athens and Greek Islands, Venice, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and London, in that order. I'm getting a little nervous about the week alone, but I studied in Spain last summer and Spainards are wonderful, warm, laid back people. I just couldn't miss the running of the bulls in Pamplona... and yes, I will be participating in the running! I'm hoping I won't be completely alone - my boyfriend is in London now and may be able to meet me. He's a former UT tennis player from Australia and works for one of the tennis pros. They're getting ready for Wimbledon right now, and I'm sad I couldn't go earlier to watch... but unfortunately, summer school doesn't end until July 7 :-(

And Kristie, the s'mores sound amazing! We should all take an intern "lunch" break there!!

Oh and one more thing... Barrett actually prefers to be called Rogers Barrett... for some odd reason...???... so don't hesitate to say hi to Rogers when you see him!

almost forgot.....

Also, I'm trying to learn Spanish because I got a C in Spanish II last semester...not cool

The Answer to the Great Question: "Who is Jeff Brannigan?"

Whats up guys. So, I'm prod to be the first guy (besides Andrew) to post on this blog, and luck for you guys, I'm currently taking an online class thats teaches be how to blog (a very complicated process) among many other "technical writing mediums". Anyways, the class is lame. So I thought I would kind of introduce myself to everyone because I don't think I did a very good job of it at the intern meeting last week.

So, my name is Jeffrey Thomas Brannigan, I was born and raised in Marin County, California and then moved to Houston when I was 12 at the start of middle school. I have an older sister who just graduated from UT and will be working for a consulting firm in Houston. I'm currently finishing off my Undergrad in Politics at A&M and I'm sort of leaving my options open as to what I'm going to do post-graduation. In fact, this is my first real business-world internship. Up until last year, I planned on pursing a career in national politics and even interned for a congressman in DC for three months. Don't get me wrong, I had an awesome time but it made me realize that working in politics at the national level may not be for me at this point in my life. Anyway, a mutual friend of myself and my sister got me interested in advertising. He's been working for GSD&M for about 3 years now and told me he thought I would be a good fit in the industry. Anyway, I was hired by Tocquigny and here I am!! I really like it so far and I'm excited to get to work with you guys this summer.

In addition to this internship, I'm doing a few other things this summer. First of all, I'm only here in Austin about 3 days a week (M-W) and staying at my sisters place with her roommates while she is spending her summer in Israel. Thursday and Friday, I'm working at a Law firm in College Station as a runner to make a few bucks to exist on this summer, which by the way is possibly the best job ever. All I do is drive to the courthouse, title companies, storage, other law offices and sometimes to Sam's Club to do some shopping. All of this while driving a truck the law firm owns and pretty much just talking on the phone all day.....its legit. In addition to that I'm taking that way-cool online class and I'm also a Fish Camp Counselor for A&M's welcome/brainwashing camp for freshman. Its a lot of fun. All sumer long until camp which is in early August, my job is to get to know the other 23 counselors in my specific camp, which means taking road trips, having pool parties all summer and just hanging out constantly, its a pretty sweet gig.

Anywho, thats me this summer in a nutshell. I'd love to hear about the rest of y'all.

Yummy S’mores . . .

Hi everybody! At the intern orientation I said that I like food and to eat and I mentioned my food drawer. So I figured it would only be appropriate to mention a new addition to my drawer: Kroger’s Baked Cheese Balls. Does anyone remember the original Planters Cheez Balls? My childhood is filled with memories of lunchtime, the playground, and Cheez Balls. Needless to say, I was saddened when my friend told me that Planters stopped making them. But I’ve found a decent stand-in – I can’t say “replacement” because nothing can replace authentic Cheez Balls. Anyway, they’re delicious and healthy because they’re baked… well, healthiER because they’re baked. And while on the theme of childhood, I thought of s’mores. So if you’re ever having a craving for s’mores, you should go to Halcyon down the street on the corner of 4th and Colorado (I believe, it’s across from 219 West). It’s a cozy, little place where they’ll give you a plate of marshmallows to toast over your own personal table fire and let the marshmallow melt the chocolate in between two graham crackers. Yes, you can go to HEB and make some at home, but what’s the fun in that? You get to laugh at the people who blacken their marshmallows (I’m one of them – never quite mastered marshmallow toasting). Besides you get to play with fire in public =).

So I'll post first...well first-ish

Hey guys!

I may have seemed really out of it the other day (it doesn't really matter which "the other day" it was, I'm pretty much out of it everyday, its part of my charm ;) but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm really excited to be interning with all of you and I hope we all get to have some fun together throughout this summer! I figured no one really knew what to start out blogging about...so I decided to post one of those *silly* little surveys as kind of an ice breaker. Ya'll can copy and paste it and fill it out and maybe we'll each have a chuckle about it later or something. mmkay that is all. I should be studying...as usual!

Interns

Hey everyone, this is your place to post rants, raves, concerns, questions, stories, whatever about anything you want. Go at it.
